Like the
family runt chasing after its big brothers, screaming "Wait
for me!" AskJeeves has made a move to try and keep up with
the competition. Their recent acquisition of Bloglines—which
uses its own technology, as well as RSS, to compile
searchable indices of all things blog—will place nearly 285
million blog articles within Jeeves' domain. Bloglines'
founder, Mark Fletcher, will remain on as part of the deal;
AskJeeves will integrate Bloglines' proprietary technology
into their already existing cadre of sites (which include
Excite.com and Ask.com, among others).
The price
tag for the purchase hasn't slipped out quite yet, but
analysts expect Bloglines to bring fourth-ranked Jeeves
more traffic overall. We just hope this underdog does a
little better than the one from this past Sunday.
